Total Care Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting for a Band 3 Adult Support Worker for Residential & Supported Living Community Support Work in the Belfast area. These are temporary block bookings for a minimum of 3-6 months. You will work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. 

We are looking for empathetic and caring staff who share the values of this service and a desire to help improve and add to the quality of life and well-being of service users.

Job Summary / Main Purpose

 

Working as part of a team which provides care and supports adults with a Learning Disability in the area of accommodation and social care. Working with people with a learning disability is one of the most rewarding jobs you can do. Getting to know people with a learning disability can take time, patience and a high level of empathy so these are important personal characteristics for each candidate. 

 

Discovering the things that people with a learning disability enjoy and building relationships with them, will be an integral part of the role. Candidate's personal attributes should include values of sensitivity, person centred care, respect and understanding  of people with a learning disability. 

 

In keeping with the changing needs of service users you will be required to work appropriate shift patterns, on a 24hr – 7 days a week basis. This includes weekend working, sleep-in duties and waking night duties. To support you in delivering the appropriate person centred care you will receive both an induction and ongoing training to encourage appropriate skill development. 

Main Duties / Responsibilities

For each of the following, the postholder will;

 

  • Support service users to acquire and maintain daily living skills and household tasks.
  • Provide direct care and / or assistance in areas of personal and intimate care to meet the complex health care needs of service users.
  • Support service users in the care of clothing in respect of washing, ironing etc.
  • Support in the preparation, choice of meals and cooking meals.

 

  • Assist and support service users in the maintenance of good standards of homecare which includes housework.
  • Participate in handover reporting and to identify any areas of concern.
  • When necessary accompany / support service users whilst shopping or whilst engaging in other day to day community activities and recreational activities.
  • Accompany the service user to attend GP and other medical appointments.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with service users’ families, relatives and friends.
  • Notify the manager of his / her nominee of any change in service users circumstances.
  • Maintenance of appropriate records and taking required action.
  • Participate in the planning, development and implementing of individual care packages for service users.
  • Report any adverse incidents or complaints in accordance with Trust procedures.
  • Attend meetings and supervision sessions when required.
  • Participate in training opportunities, which include: Induction Training, all mandatory training, and all other training to ensure a person centred service delivery.
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety procedures as required by the Trust or Facility.
  • Promote equality of opportunity and good relations as outlined in the Trust’s Equality Scheme.
  • Be aware of the Human Rights legislation in relation to the requirements of this post.

 

Medication 

 

  • Support service users with the safe handling, administration and recording of medication.

 

Financial 

 

  • Ensure strict adherence to the Trust’s financial procedures and policies in regards to all financial matters and report any discrepancies to the line manager.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Experience 

Qualifications/ Registration

2 years’ experience of delivering care & support in a homely / caring environment.

 

OR

 

1 years’ experience of delivering direct care and support in a health or social care environment and an appropriate level 2 NVQ/QCF/RQF qualification. 

 

OR

 

1 years’ experience of delivering direct care and support in a health or social care environment / homely caring environment and 4 GCSE’s (or equivalents. 

 

OR

 

Hold appropriate level 3 NVQ/QCF/RQF

 

Must also have:

 

Hold a current registration with NI Social Care Council, either as a social care worker or professional social worker, or be eligible to apply for same or registration with other professional body.

 

Knowledge Skills / Abilities

  • Be prepared to work full range of shifts over a 24 hour period, 7 days per week, including evenings, waking night duty, sleep in duties, weekends and bank holidays as required.

 

Other (e.g. Driving etc.)

  • Willingness to undertake Trust two week Induction Programme prior to work placement.
  • Must undertake QCF level 2 certificate in Health and Social Care if required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and speech.
  • An understanding of the issues involved in supporting an individual with a learning disability
