About the Role
We are recruiting a Finance Officer (Band 3) to join the Finance & Contracting Directorate within the Western Health & Social Care Trust. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised, motivated individual to support the delivery of high‑quality financial services across a range of functions.
The successful candidate will work as part of a busy finance team, providing accurate, confidential and efficient administrative and financial support. You will assist in one of the following key areas:
- Financial Assessments (Residential & Nursing Homes)
- Direct Payments / Self‑Directed Support (SDS)
- Retained Finance (income, payments, payroll, cash office duties)
Key Responsibilities
You will support the finance team with tasks such as:
- Processing financial assessments for residential and nursing home placements
- Verifying income, assets and maintaining accurate client records
- Setting up and maintaining Direct Payment schedules
- Monitoring financial returns and following up outstanding information
- Recording and analysing financial transactions in line with Trust procedures
- Processing invoices, petty cash reimbursements, travel claims and payments
- Liaising with Shared Services, suppliers, social workers, service users and representatives
- Providing cash office duties including receipting, banking and safe custody of monies
- Supporting month‑end and year‑end financial processes
- Maintaining confidentiality, accuracy and compliance with Trust policies
Essential Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate:
- 5 GCSEs (Grades A–C) including English Language and Mathematics (or Accounts)
- AND
- 1 year’s finance or admin/clerical experience
- OR 3 years’ finance or admin/clerical experience
You must clearly show how you meet these criteria on your application.
Skills & Abilities (assessed at interview)
- Basic accounting/finance/admin knowledge
- Strong IT skills, including spreadsheets and MS Office
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
Desirable Criteria
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (or Trust‑approved alternative for applicants with a disability)
