About the Service

 

Castlehill is an innovative service providing temporary accommodation across 22 self-contained flats, including six designed for shared living.

 

The service supports individuals with complex needs, which may include homelessness, mental health challenges and substance use. Residents are provided with a stable and secure environment where they can begin rebuilding their lives.

 

The team provides tailored, low-to-medium intensity support, helping residents develop essential life skills, maintain their tenancy, improve their wellbeing and work towards sustainable, long-term housing.

 

The Role

 

As a Support Worker, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, using a holistic approach to support service users.

 

The service operates using a housing-led, low-threshold and harm-reduction approach, providing individuals with appropriate support and advice while encouraging them to manage their own lives and work towards their personal goals.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

• Acting as a first point of contact for service users, agencies, contractors and visitors, ensuring a warm, professional and welcoming environment

• Supporting service users with their practical day-to-day needs, including meal preparation, laundry and maintaining their living space where required

• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date service user records

• Providing colleagues with timely and accurate information relating to service users

• Assisting case workers in delivering support plans and safety and wellbeing management plans

• Supporting service users with activities that help them achieve personal goals, including financial, creative, educational and communication-based activities

• Completing and recording health, wellbeing and building checks in line with procedures

• Identifying and reporting building defects in accordance with health and safety requirements

• Ensuring appropriate health and safety standards are maintained throughout the service

• Undertaking cleaning duties as required and in accordance with health and safety practices

• Completing project administration, including petty cash, statistics, invoices, record keeping, service user files and incident/accident reporting

• Maintaining awareness of IT and cyber security risks and following relevant IT security policies

• Participating in handovers, team meetings and required training

• Supporting colleagues and contributing positively to the wider team

• Maintaining a professional approach and consistently delivering a high standard of support

 

Essential Criteria

 

Applicants should have:

 

• A minimum of 3 GCSEs at grades A–C, including Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications

• At least 1 year of relevant paid work experience OR 2 years of relevant volunteering experience

• Good working knowledge of risk assessment and risk management processes

• Good IT skills, including experience using systems to record client information

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• The ability to compile and present accurate written and electronic reports

• An understanding of homelessness and the issues that can contribute to homelessness

• An understanding of the support that can be provided within homelessness services to promote positive outcomes and greater independence

• Knowledge of statutory and voluntary sector resources available to individuals experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness

• An understanding of the importance of maintaining health and safety standards in the day-to-day delivery of services

• Knowledge of relevant statutory and voluntary agencies and the ability to liaise and network effectively with relevant organisations

• A willingness to work in accordance with our client’s vision, mission, values and professional standards
