Contract: Permanent

Hours: 35 hours per week  varied shifts

 

We are currently recruiting for a Support Worker to join our client’s team at Cloverhill in Dunmurry, Belfast.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience supporting children and families who is passionate about helping people improve their housing situation, health, wellbeing and overall quality of life.

 

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide practical and person-centred support while helping service users build confidence, access appropriate services and work towards greater independence.

About the Role

 

As a Support Worker, you will help with the effective day-to-day running of the service while providing high-quality support to service users.

 

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team using a holistic, housing-led, low-threshold and harm-reduction approach.

 

The role will involve supporting individuals and families to access services that can improve their housing, health and wellbeing. This will be achieved through positive engagement, individualised support plans, targeted interventions, signposting and activities.

 

You will also support case workers in delivering personalised support plans and help service users transition into and make effective use of the service.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

Acting as a first point of contact for service users, families, agencies, contractors and visitors

Providing a warm, professional and welcoming environment

Supporting the practical day-to-day needs of service users

Helping service users settle into and make effective use of the service

Building positive and professional relationships with service users

Maintaining accurate and up-to-date service user records

Providing colleagues with timely and accurate information relating to service users

Assisting case workers in delivering individual support plans and safety and wellbeing management plans

Supporting the delivery of activities and interventions for service users

Signposting individuals and families to appropriate services and support

Completing required health, wellbeing and building checks

Identifying and reporting building defects

Maintaining appropriate health and safety standards throughout the service

Following service risk assessments and organisational procedures

Completing project administration, including petty cash, statistics, invoices and record keeping

Maintaining accurate service user files and completing relevant incident and accident documentation

Following IT and cyber security requirements

Participating in handovers, team meetings and mandatory/core training

Supporting and mentoring volunteers where appropriate

Working collaboratively with colleagues to provide consistent, high-quality support

Maintaining professional standards and appropriate boundaries at all times

 

The responsibilities listed above are not exhaustive, and reasonable additional duties may be required according to the needs of the service.

 

Qualifications

 

Applicants must have:

 

A minimum of 3 GCSEs at grades A–C, including Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications

 

Experience

 

Applicants must have:

 

At least 1 year of relevant paid work experience OR 2 years of relevant volunteering experience

 

Experience working with children and families would be particularly relevant to this position.

 

Essential Skills & Knowledge

 

Applicants should have:

 

Good working knowledge of risk assessment and risk management processes

Good IT skills, including experience using IT systems to record client information

Strong written and verbal communication skills

The ability to compile and present accurate written and electronic reports

An understanding of homelessness and the issues that can contribute to homelessness

An understanding of the support available within homelessness services to help individuals and families achieve positive outcomes

Knowledge of statutory and voluntary sector resources available to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness

An understanding of the importance of health and safety standards within support services

Knowledge of relevant statutory and voluntary agencies

The ability to communicate and liaise effectively with external organisations

A professional, compassionate and non-judgemental approach

A willingness to work in accordance with our clients values, policies and professional standards

 

Safeguarding & Enhanced Disclosure

 

This role involves regulated activity with children.

 

Successful candidates will therefore be required to complete the appropriate Enhanced Disclosure check, including a Children’s Barred List check, before undertaking regulated activity.

 

Having a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from being considered for the position. This will depend on the nature of the role and the circumstances and background of any offences or other information contained within a disclosure certificate.

NISCC Registration

 

This position is subject to NISCC registration. If the successful candidate does not currently hold valid registration, this must be completed within the probationary period.
