Part-Time Cook

About the Role
Our client is a values-led organisation supporting some of the most marginalised individuals, couples and families experiencing homelessness.
We are currently recruiting a Part-Time Cook to join a dedicated and supportive team within a day service that provides practical assistance to adults experiencing alcohol dependency.
The service provides hot meals, access to shower and laundry facilities, practical support and a programme of social activities.
As Cook, you will play an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of service users by preparing fresh, nutritious, home-cooked meals. The service provides up to three meals per day for up to 23 service users, including individuals with specific dietary requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and cook fresh, nutritious home-cooked meals and snacks.
Cater for a range of dietary and nutritional requirements.
Monitor meal consumption and liaise with colleagues regarding service users’ nutritional needs.
Support the development of individual meal plans for people with specialised dietary requirements.
Maintain excellent standards of kitchen hygiene and cleanliness.
Follow food safety, Environmental Health and HACCP procedures.
Complete required food safety records and monitoring documentation.
Purchase weekly food supplies while working within an agreed budget.
Carry out regular stock takes and maintain effective stock control.
Ensure catering requirements are met for stakeholder visits and other service activities.
Attend regular supervision, training and catering meetings.
Follow all relevant Health & Safety, confidentiality and organisational policies and procedures.
Work professionally as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.
Provide flexibility to cover additional catering shifts when required.
Essential Criteria
Applicants should have:
A Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering, or willingness to complete the qualification.
A minimum of one year’s experience preparing fresh, home-cooked meals within a professional catering environment.
A commitment to maintaining high standards of kitchen hygiene.
The ability to accommodate specific dietary requirements.
Good knowledge of food hygiene and food safety, including HACCP controls, recording and monitoring.
The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
The ability to engage positively and build trust with service users.
The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
An understanding of homelessness and some of the challenges experienced by people affected by it.
Working Hours
This is a permanent part-time position working 10 hours per week across Saturday and Sunday.
Some flexibility may be required to cover annual leave, sickness and other rotational shifts across the catering team.
