Driver with Caring Duties – Band 3

Northern Health and Social Care Trust
Location: Transport Department, Holywell Hospital, Antrim
Hours: 37.5 per week
Salary: Band 3

About the Role

The Northern Health and Social Care Trust is seeking a Driver with Caring Duties to join the Transport Department at Holywell Hospital. This is an important role providing safe, reliable transport for clients and patients across the community. The postholder will support Adult and Day Care services, ensuring individuals with a range of needs are transported comfortably and securely.

Main DutiesTransport & Driving

  • Collect and transport clients/patients to Trust Adult and Day Care facilities
  • Support individuals including older adults, people with physical disabilities, epilepsy, psychiatric conditions, and visual impairments
  • Transport clients to educational classes, outings, luncheon clubs and other activities
  • Carry out daily vehicle checks and minor maintenance (oil, water, tyres, cleaning, etc.)
  • Operate tail lifts after training
  • Complete daily and monthly vehicle log sheets (mileage, fuel, passenger details, etc.)
  • Secure wheelchair users safely using approved restraint systems

Portering Duties

  • Load and unload vehicles as required
  • Deliver goods and supplies to departments
  • Transport items such as meals, bedding, furniture, equipment, pharmacy items and laundry

Caring Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with basic needs before, during and after transport
  • Support individuals using mobility aids or wheelchairs when boarding or leaving the vehicle
  • Provide minor first aid if required (no certificate needed)
  • Assist at day centres, outings and functions under the supervision of care staff
  • Support evacuation procedures and provide transport backup in emergencies

  • Adhere to Trust policies including No Smoking, Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Records Management
  • Ensure confidentiality of all patient and staff information
  • Demonstrate commitment to safe practice and high‑quality service delivery

Terms & Conditions

  • Hours: 37.5 per week (excluding meal breaks)

  • Driving: 2 years (preferred)
