Make Ready Support Worker (Band 3)

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Make Ready Support Worker to ensure ambulances, equipment, and consumables are fully prepared and ready for operational duty.
This role is essential in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and readiness to support frontline ambulance services and ensure the well-being of both staff and patients.
The position involves shift work, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities Make Ready Duties
- Ensure ambulances are cleaned, decontaminated, stocked, and ready for operational use
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness for both vehicle interiors and exteriors
- Carry out vehicle checks (lights, fluids, tyres, etc.) and report defects
- Ensure all onboard equipment is clean, functional, and in good condition
- Restock clinical supplies and response bags to required levels
- Move vehicles between locations to support operational needs
- Dispose of waste and sharps in line with policies and procedures
- Monitor stock levels and ensure proper stock rotation
- Identify and report maintenance or equipment issues
Communication
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, station staff, and ambulance crews
- Coordinate vehicle availability for cleaning and operational use
- Liaise with contractors and estates teams regarding repairs
- Maintain accurate records of cleaning and maintenance activities
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times
- Report infection prevention concerns appropriately
Health & Safety
- Follow all Health & Safety policies and regulations
- Use PPE appropriately and safely
- Adhere to COSHH and manual handling guidelines
- Report hazards, faults, or incidents promptly
- Maintain high personal hygiene and professional standards
- Work flexibly across a 24/7 rota, including on-call if required
Learning & Development
- Participate in training, including mandatory and developmental programmes
- Engage in annual appraisals and continuous professional development
- Support colleagues and contribute to team development

Essential CriteriaQualifications & Experience
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- 3 GCSEs (including English) plus 1 year relevant experience
OR
- Level 2 vocational qualification plus 1 year relevant experience
OR
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a relevant service/support role
Other Requirements
- Hold (or be willing to obtain before starting) a Category C1 driving licence
- Willingness to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
- Flexibility to work across different locations
